Examining the status and character of women in “Khosrow and Shirin”
and “Laila and Majnun” of Nezami and comparing with “Khosrow” and
“Shirin” and “Bijan and Manijeh” in Shah Nameh of Firdawsi

abstrac
This thesis is a study on the character of women in “Khosrow and Shirin” and “Laila and Majnun” of
Nezami in compared with Khosrow and Shirin and Bijan and Manijeh in Shah Nameh of Firdawsi. First
of all, the position of women in ancient history then during the epoch of ignorance (The Jahiliyah era),
later on in king’s noble court (Durbar) and Haramsars as well as ancient stories and tales and finally
from the Islam and Quran point of view has been investigated. Afterwards, this study focused on the
view of “Firdawsi” and “Nezami” (the main idea of the research) regarding women associated with
positive and negative characteristics of heroines and the rate of influences of patriarchy on the women.
This study has been conducted using descriptive- analytic and comparative methods. The data have been
collected via documents and making notes.
The paper proceeds as follow:
Introduction and 6 chapters which the chapters include:
1. Generalities
2. Woman in the mirror of culture and history
3. The status and prestige of women in Islam
4. The attitutes of Firdawsi and Nezami toward women in their poems, Khosrow and Shirin” and
“Laila and Majnun” of Nezami; Khosrow and Shirin and Bijan and Manijeh.

6. Conclusion
Carrying out the research, 53 resources have been employed in which 22 were major and the others
used as secondary sources.
